Welcome to our little plot of land and our farmschooling adventure. This blog was designed to create a community of other middle school and high school homeschoolers who desire to continually inspire a love of learning in our children with an emphasis on maintaining their fascination with life and learning! This is where school and life blend into an indistinguishable blur of fun, challenge and education!

Going From “a-Drop-My-Kids-off-Small-Business-Owner” and Mom to a Homeschooler with a Business (or two)

Trish David Chase Gage and Blake

(We so need a new picture… this is about three years old now!)

Let me tell you a little about us… I’m Trish, my husband David and I have 3 boys (13, 12 and 9 years old), 9 cats, 2 cows, 2 bulls, 2 horses, chickens, a dog and two red-eared sliders. I am a work-at-home homeschooling mom. I very recently became one of the owners of Hip Homeschool Moms and have owned an IT staffing business for twenty years.

We live in La Grange TN where they still maintain the quaint European tradition of naming their homes and farms.  We chose the name “Live and Learn” for both our blog and our farm and it is so appropriate for many reasons… First, we are homeschoolers and therefore we are always in “learning” mode! We believe that learning is a lifelong endeavor and it’s not always a nice straight line! It can be messy, chaotic and hectic and that describes our life regularly.  Also, “Live and Learn” is one of those idioms that we usually say or hear when a mistake has been made … and we’ve made many on our farm (and in life), and are still making them! But we embrace mistakes as portals of discovery, opportunities to learn something! Finally Live and Learn Farm is appropriate because we do not have “formal” training for just about anything we are doing on the farm or in life, we are getting “on the job training” by just living it and learning it as we DO it! We hope you will join us for our unpredictable farmschooling adventures!

Why Follow Live and Learn Farm?  Live and Learn

This blog is dedicated to helping other homeschoolers, especially of middle schoolers and high schoolers, learn new ideas and ways to inspire our children to love learning!  To encourage one another through some of the rough waters of educating through puberty and to learn to not take ourselves too seriously! To not only allow mistakes… but to grow through them and due to them.

I started Live and Learn Farm blog this year (2013)  primarily as a tool to document and track our farmschooling adventures, to create a digital portfolio of sorts, and to connect with other homeschoolers.  It has already morphed into much more than that, it now is a place where we collaborate, learn and grow, and… to my surprise, it has become a part of my identity.  It is this venue that allowed me to find a love of writing!
